Fruit Table For Wedding

A fruit table is a dedicated spread of fruit usually found at weddings, elegant parties or events. They offer a visually appealing display, when done right and can often feed 50 or more people depending on how much fruit is on display.

Fruit comes in many different shapes, sizes and colors, which help to make fruit displays a wonderful addition to your wedding day. There is usually a variety of larger fruit cut up in ready to eat chances such as watermelon, pineapple, and cantaloupe mixed with a variety of grapes, berries, cherries, oranges, etc.

Fruit displays like a fruit decorated table are a great alternative to flower displays. Since fruit centerpieces are edible, part of your design budget can also double in function by also working as a way to feed your guests as well.

Today, I’m going to share with you all about how to enhance your wedding reception with fruit tables.

Fruit Table For Wedding

Knowing the do’s and don’ts when it comes to a fruit table for weddings could be the difference between you having a basic looking wedding or one that’s more elevated and elegant. I’ll share everything you’ll need to know below and what to look for when building your own fruit decoration table display below.

Does Every Wedding Needs A Fruit Table

So does every wedding need a fruit table? No. While it’s customary to serve fresh fruit and vegetables at wedding celebrations, it’s not necessary. A full fruit table is generally idea for larger weddings, although guests can still enjoy servings of fruit in other ways without presenting it on a full fruit display. You can include fruit on a charcuterie board, in a bowl of fruit salad, or even as a fruit centerpiece without necessarily having to fill an entire table of fruit on display.

How To Decorate A Fruit Table For A Wedding

Use the fruit vessels as bowls

Serving watermelon, cantaloupe, or pineapple? When you finish scooping out the meat of the larger fruit, you can use the vessels as bowls. For example slice a cantaloupe in half, and scoop out the fruit leaving the vessel intact. Repurpose the vessel as a bowl on your fruit table to serve up cantaloupe or another smaller fruit like cherries, grapes, or strawberries.

Pops of color

While you can opt to do an arrangement of your favorite fruit varieties, you can also consider going monochromatic with your fruit selections or eating from the rainbow. Think of reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blue, and purple. It will look beautiful if grouped in either monochromatic or rainbow themed. You can also go for a fruit theme like a tropical fruit during summer weddings and seasonal fruit like cranberries or pomegranates during winter weddings.

Build it Same-day.

A best practice when putting together a fruit table is to build your fruit table on the same day. You’ll want to do this because cut fruit doesn’t last long on a spread; and for a grazing table or fruit table, longevity is key. Another pro tip is to avoid slicing apples, pears, and avocados since they brown quickly. Same with bananas too. Instead, if you want to incorporate these fruit options, you can display them whole and ready to grab and go with the skin still intact.

Pre-portion fruit

Spend some time pre-portioning out a few types of fruit. You can take toothpicks and prepare mini skewers of grapes, berries, and oranges. You can also make mini fruit salads in appetizer dishes that can be displayed on a tier along with the rest of your fruit spread.

Add Garnish

Any table spread you do for any event, you’ll want to fill in the negative space. This helps your spread appear full and lavish, which will elevate your wedding display and take it to new heights. Garnish that works great as a filler is kale or lettuce leaves!  You can also try adding fresh herbs like parsley or mint, or edible flowers like nasturtiums and pansies throughout the display as well.

Add Flowers

Floral arrangements bring life to any decorative spread and can add texture, dimension and height to elevate your fruit displays.

Use tiers

Another way to add height to your height to your display is to use tiers and crates to present your food at varying heights. You can also build a fruit tower as another fruit centerpiece idea.

Adding varying levels of height to any and all of your food displays, even your dessert table set up ideas, will help set your arrangement up like a pro.

Add a chocolate fountain

Want to take things up a notch? Add a chocolate fountain to your fruit display. Chocolate is a great dipping sauce for strawberries, bananas, pineapples, apples, oranges, and even some dried fruit. Include individual skewers or toothpicks for easy dipping with your guests. You can even change the color of your chocolate to coordinate with your wedding theme.
