Is Hiring A Nutritionist Worth It
Even though it’s amazing that you can find so many tips and advice online, it can be confusing sometimes.
There are tons of opposing opinions about dieting and nutrition, and that can make healthy eating and losing weight confusing and difficult since you don’t know what advice to take, you don’t know what’s right for you, and so on.
So, a lot of people have placed their dieting journey in the hands of nutritionists, and I’m dedicating this post to whether hiring a nutritionist is indeed worth it or not.
Is Hiring A Nutritionist Worth It
What Is A Nutritionist
Nutritionists are experts in food and nutrients, and they help people decide what to eat in order to be healthy and lead a healthy lifestyle.
Nutritionists can treat a variety of health conditions. They also often work with hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and cafeterias.
Some tend to confuse dietitians and nutritionists, and they don’t know how to determine whether someone is a dietitian or a nutritionist. While they do have many similarities, there are some differences.
Nutritionists don’t need any formal education, a certification, or a license in order to be called a nutritionist (anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, basically), whereas dietitians need to have a bachelor’s degree in the field, experience, and pass an exam.
However, many nutritionists also do have formal education, certifications, and such, just like dietitians, so there are many nutritionists who are just as competent as dietitians.
To make it simple, all dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are dietitians.
What are some job duties a nutritionist has?
Helping the client understand nutrition and healthy eating
Developing meal plans based on the client’s body, health, preferences, and goals
Giving advice on how, when, and what to eat, and how to make the meals
Assessing client’s health
Following the latest nutrition research
and more.
Benefits Of Hiring A Nutritionist
Hiring a nutritionist has so many benefits.
If you’re working on losing weight, gaining weight, or just working on healthy eating long term, working with a nutritionist might be a good idea.
A nutritionist can help you tremendously on your weight loss journey, or your journey to a body image you’re happy with, or even to just a healthy lifestyle.
First of all, a nutritionist will create a meal plan tailored to your goals (whether you want to lose, gain, or maintain weight), to your preferences (it doesn’t matter if you’re plant-based, vegetarian, or something else - a nutritionist will take that into count), to your health (any health issues you may have), and to your body (not everyone’s body and body type is similar, so diets need to be tailored to each individual).
They will educate you on food groups, healthy eating tips, macros, calories, and everything else you need to know to reach your goal (no matter if it’s losing weight or just getting toned) and lead a healthy lifestyle.
They can help you fix your relationship with food, and reach your goal in a healthy way.
There are so many diet plans and meal plans out there, but having one tailored to your body, goals, and health, is very important. Two people can follow the exact same meal plan, and get different results - that’s why having a diet plan created just for you is so important.
Is Hiring A Nutritionist Worth It
This is a tricky question, as it heavily depends on your specific situation, and whether or not hiring a nutritionist fits your budget.
However, if it does, then I’d say hiring a nutritionist is definitely worth it.
It can help you fast track your weight loss journey, be healthy, develop a good relationship with food, get your desired body image, feel good in your body, have energy, avoid being bloated, and so much more.
While you can try to figure it out yourself, it will likely take trial and error, and you will come across some bad advice while searching online.
So, taking the guesswork out of it, and letting a professional take care of it is definitely something you should do if you can.
But nutritionists won’t just give you a meal plan and tell you to blindly follow it because they say so. They will educate you on why that meal plan is good, how much macros you need to intake for your specific goals, what’s good and what isn’t in terms of healthy eating, how much you need to eat from each food group, and so much more.
So you’re not only getting the meal plan, but the education that goes with it, so you can be confident in what you’re eating.
If you’re getting married soon, or even have a special occasion, it might even be more valuable to you, as you want to look and feel your best for your big day.
Of course, nutritionists can’t do magic. They can’t make you lose tons of weight in a month (since that would mean starving and losing weight in an unhealthy way, and nutritionists are first and foremost focused on your health).
So, you need to come into it with the right mindset - you’re hiring someone to educate you and give you all of the necessary tools and resources to lead a healthy lifestyle.
