How To Get Glowing Skin Naturally By Eating

Every bride wants to look beautiful on her wedding day. Everyone’s favorite part is watching the glowing bride walk down the aisle to her expectant groom. She radiates love and joy!

The best way to ensure that you glow on your wedding day is to make sure your SKIN is glowing! It’s every bride’s dream to have gorgeous, glowing skin on her big day! You probably have a picture in your mind of exactly how you want to look in your dress and how your hair and makeup will be done. Don’t forget to include your healthy skin in that picture!

Gorgeous skin truly radiates from the inside out. The healthier you are on the inside, the healthier you LOOK on the outside. What you eat has a huge impact on your skin. Today, we’re exploring some tried and tested ways to help your skin look its best on one of the most important days of your life.

How to Get Glowing Skin For Your Wedding

1. Hydrate

Water is known to improve your complexion and give you a more radiant skin tone.

It is important that you drink plenty of water. Water recommendations for adults range 8-9 glasses per day.

However! Foods with a large water content also count towards this recommendation - such as watery fruits and vegetables (e.g. watermelon, celery, cucumbers).

Foods can actually contribute 20% of our water requirements. So, if you're eating a well-balanced diet, you generally don't need the full 8-9 glasses. The important thing is to just remember to stay hydrated by getting an adequate intake of water and hydrating foods into your day.

2. Avoid Inflammatory Foods

Some foods may cause inflammation in your body. Inflammation then can translate to skin issues, like redness, puffiness and even acne.

Did you know? If you have acne prone skin, there are certain foods you’ll want to avoid such as those that have a high glycemic index. Avoid sugar and high fructose corn syrup as much as possible. They put stress on your digestive system and cause breakouts, dark circles, sun sensitivity, and more.

It might be a good idea to avoid gluten the last several months before your wedding as well, as it has been linked to increased acne.

While I won’t tell you to avoid alcohol altogether, it might be a good idea to decrease your alcohol consumption in favor of healthier skin. Alcohol can cause inflammation in the body, and dries out your skin.

3. Increase Antioxidants, Anti-inflammatories, and Omega 3

Now that you know what to avoid, how about foods that actually help your skin naturally! Foods that are high in antioxidants and Omega 3 fatty acids have incredible benefits for your skin.

Antioxidants help you rid your body of toxins that may contribute to acne and other skin issues, while Omega 3s help to give your skin extra glow.

Add some tomatoes, berries, spinach, carrots, avocados and salmon to your weekly meal plan. Super easy to add all of these ingredients into a fun salad as well for perfect skin.

Some really great anti inflammatories are green tea and turmeric (which can also be added into a tea). BONUS - you can often find these in your skin care products as well. So the next time you make your grocery list, be sure to add these winners to the mix.

4. Check Your Gut

Eating healthy and exercising is a great way to improve gut health, but sometimes you just need more. When it comes to balancing the gut, you need to increase the good bacteria in your body with the help of probiotics.

You can get probiotic supplements, and I recommend you do, but you can also get probiotics in food, such as yogurt, kombucha, sauerkraut or kefir.

According to a study found in the National Library of Medicine on “The Role of Probiotics in Skin Health and Related Gut–Skin Axis: A Review”, adequate probiotics in the diet has been shown to result in the improvement of various skin conditions. “Probiotics can be used as potential management tools to suppress and improve skin diseases in multiple ways, including decreasing oxidative stress, suppressing inflammatory responses, and keeping immune effects.”

So don’t forget to take your probiotics if you want to have glowing skin!

5. Get Moving!

Exercise gets your blood flowing, which not only brings color to your cheeks, over time it will also improve your complexion. You can really improve your skin and radiate a healthy glow if you are exercising regularly. Even if you are just getting out to walk every day.

Exercise is known to help detoxify the substances in your skin, boost collagen, increases blood flow, improve the texture on your skin and can lessen stress related breakouts.

6. Wear Sunscreen

While sunshine has many benefits, including providing us with Vitamin D, too much sun exposure is not good for your skin. Sunburn and or even just repeated sun exposure can lead to health issues like skin cancer. Even if you are one of the lucky ones who avoid that, you can end up with dark spots, sometimes called sunspots. Make sure a sunscreen that is SPF30 or higher is part of your skincare routine!

Just as a sidenote: Wearing sunscreen is one of the top tips I learned from my esthetician about helping to preserve all the good work that you’re doing to see improvements in your skin. So wear sunscreen even on cloudy days and even in the winter.

7. Invest in a Good Beauty Routine

When it comes to skin care, you often get what you pay for, but the higher price tag is worth it when you see the results! Good skincare for your skin type can help you reduce fine lines and wrinkles, remove dead skin and/or dry skin and help treat oily skin, among other things.

Obviously, this is something that you need to think about months in advance so all those beauty products have time to do their work. You may even consider booking a round of facials leading up to your wedding. Just make sure that if you are getting facials, that your last one be done one week before your wedding at the latest.

As for at home treatments, a good eye cream can eliminate puffiness and dark circles while helping to brighten the eye area. If you have sensitive skin, make sure to choose a brand that values natural ingredients. There are plenty of products on the market for acne prone skin.

Recently, hyaluronic acid has become popular for reducing or even eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.

Don’t forget to moisturize! Dryness makes your skin appear dull.

8. Remember, you’re beautiful!

In my opinion, the number one source of radiant, glowing skin is confidence. If you feel good on your big day, you will absolutely glow! Take the time to indulge in self care, enjoy some rest and relaxation, and love on yourself! Your guests will see your excitement beaming through your smile!

No matter what you do to improve your skin before your wedding, make sure to believe you are beautiful (because YOU ARE) when you take that first step down the aisle to the love of your life. Say some beauty affirmations in the mirror to help you boost your confidence and don’t forget to wear your smile! By doing this, you will allow your beauty to radiate from the inside out.

Oh, and HAVE FUN! People always look happier and healthier when they are enjoying themselves! Enjoy the ride! Your wedding day is an important day, but important days can be exceedingly fun if we choose to let them! Remember to live in the present moment and appreciate the beautiful moments and person that you are. You’ve got this!
