Every aspect of a wedding speaks about the couple and their personalities.

Each part of your big day should describe you and your partner perfectly! You want your guests to really be able to see who you are through all aspects of your wedding - even the smaller things. From your wedding invitations, to the wedding cake flavors, you need to think about all the details.

Since wedding cakes are such important parts of all weddings, wedding cake flavors and wedding cake decor are something you and your soon-to-be spouse definitely need to talk about.

You want to find something that not only represents you perfectly, but something your guests will love as well.

We all know every couple dreams about having a memorable wedding. So, having unique wedding favors on your big day can help your wedding be the main talk of the town for days! It will help the two of you represent your personalities, and bring a unique and creative aspect to your big day.

With that being said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having classic, traditional, and simple flavor combinations for your wedding cake! If that’s what you like, definitely go for it! They’re classics for a reason, and everyone likes them. You can have a chocolate and vanilla cake, and everyone will still love it.

But if you do prefer some more unique things, you will find some great ideas for unique wedding cake flavors in this post! It can help you add more fun and character to the wedding.

Unique Wedding Cake Flavors

Salted Caramel

Salted caramel is a flavor almost everyone loves, but it’s definitely not traditional or typical to have your wedding cake layered with salted caramel.

However, if you want to add a bit of fun and uniqueness to your big day, and you like the favor, it’s definitely a great option!

While it can work for any season (like all wedding cake flavors), this specific one might be the best choice for fall or winter weddings - since the salted caramel flavor is often associated with those seasons.

For the frosting, you can do a simple vanilla frosting, to balance out the flavors. You can also have it be buttercream frosted, and have a vanilla buttercream frosting.

Cheesecake Flavor

Yup, you read that right! You can have a cheesecake flavored wedding cake. The reason why I say cheesecake FLAVORED, and not just cheesecake, is because I mean a real wedding cake, but the flavors in it remind you of cheesecake. That’s the perfect combination of traditional and unique, and since it’s such a special flavor, your guests will be amazed.

Everyone loves cheesecake, so if you want your wedding cake to be super special and talked-about, this is the way to go.

You can have a vanilla, cream cheese, and berries cake layered with crushed cookies or graham crackers, and with a cream cheese frosting. To make it even more special, add in a white chocolate ganache. It’s gonna be show-stopping!

A cheesecake flavored wedding cake would probably be the best fit for a summer wedding, since the flavors are usually considered summer flavors.

However, if you have a winter wedding and you really want to have that flavor, don’t worry - everyone will adore it no matter what season you serve it in.

Chocolate Peanut Butter

Who doesn’t love chocolate and peanut butter? For a delicious and unique flavor, you can have a chocolate cake layered with peanut butter buttercream, and you can put some crumbled up Reese’s peanut butter cups in it.

For the frosting, you can do a mix of chocolate and peanut butter, or you can do vanilla if you want to tone it down a bit.

A delicious thing like this works for any season!

Lemon Cake

If you like fruity and fresh flavors, lemon might be the way to go! It’s super fresh, sweet and sour, which is the perfect combination for a summer wedding.

You can have a vanilla cake layered with a lemon buttercream frosting, and maybe some crushed graham crackers to take it to the next level. If sweet & sour is your jam, you can opt for a lemon curd dessert topping to add a great citrus flavor for your unique wedding cake.

Chocolate & Cherries

While this combo can be made simple, there’s definitely a way to make it unique!

And you can do that by adding different chocolate layers, and breaking the sweetness with some sour cherries.

Start with a chocolate cake, add a chocolate buttercream, a dark chocolate ganache, and put in some sour cherries to break all the sweetness.

The buttercream and the cake itself will bring in the sweetness, the dark chocolate ganache will bring in a bit of bitterness (but just as much as you need), and cherries will give you the sour part - so, it’s a perfectly balanced, and super delicious cake, that will leave all your guests asking for another slice.

This flavor combo can definitely work for any time of the year, so you don’t need to worry about that!

Ferrero Rocher

Everyone who has a sweet tooth is familiar with Ferrero Rocher - it’s arguably one of the best sweets you can find!

So, why not turn it into a wedding cake flavor?

Do a chocolate and hazelnut cake, put a Ferrero Rocher buttercream, add crushed hazelnuts, and finish with a chocolate and hazelnut frosting. Your guests will definitely love it!

Apple & Caramel

Next up on our list of unique wedding cake flavors, is apple and caramel.

I’m sure this flavor reminds you of fall right away, right?

Well, if you’re having a fall wedding, caramel apple is the perfect cake to have if you enjoy the flavors and want a unique cake!

Start with an apple spice cake, top it with a caramel buttercream, and add a brown sugar ganache - the flavor combination works perfectly together. Caramel apple will definitely wow your guests!

Raffaello Cake

Another popular truffle is Raffaelo. The coconut, milk cream, and almond cake flavor combination make it the perfect thing to turn into a wedding cake!

It works the best for a summer wedding, since coconuts are typically connected to summer themes.

Get a white chocolate cake, add in a milk cream ganache, crushed up almonds, coconut flakes, and a white chocolate frosting - you’ll get the perfect symphony of flavors that will make your guests hungry for more!

Red Velvet Cake

If you’re a big chocolate cake lover, shake things up a bit by having a unique red velvet cake made for your wedding day.

Red velvet cake is technically a cocoa cake, but what sets it apart from standard chocolate cakes (aside from the color) is its usage of unprocessed cocoa, which produces a deeper, more intense chocolate flavor.

Red velvet cake is especially the perfect wedding cake for winter and holiday weddings (think Christmas and Valentine’s day). Pair it with classic cream cheese frosting and pecan or almond cake toppings. Your guests will be pleasantly surprised to find this special celebration cake at your wedding!

Carrot Cake

Wow your guests with a unique carrot cake for your wedding day. It's simple, sweet, moist, flavorful, and topped with cream cheese frosting! If you want to make it extra tasty, opt for a carrot cake flavored with pineapple, coconut, walnuts and pureed carrots.

Carrot cake as a wedding cake is ideal for spring weddings, although it’s a great option for weddings in any season.
