Summer Wedding Desserts

Summer is one of the best times to have a wedding! The nice, sunny weather makes it perfect for outdoor weddings, so the possibilities are endless.

If you choose to have a summer wedding, one of the things you’ll need to think about with wedding planning are wedding desserts!

A dessert bar can keep your guests happy and refreshed, and it’s something your guests will love for sure. Most of your guests probably have a sweet tooth, so they’ll be thrilled when they see it!

There are plenty of dessert choices for summer weddings, and the best part is that so many of them can stand against the summer heat and humidity, and they can also complement your traditional wedding cake.

Just because you’ll have a traditional wedding cake, doesn’t mean you can’t have other wedding desserts ideas as well, and wedding bars and wedding treats.

Frozen desserts

What’s better to keep your guests refreshed on a hot sunny day, than frozen desserts?

It screams summer. You’ll just need to make sure you’re able to keep them cool and frozen, and if you can, you’re all set!

You can serve ice cream sandwiches or ice cream cakes! There are tons of flavors you can go with for these sweet treats, and your guests will love them for sure! Anyone who has a sweet tooth will be super happy to see ice cream cakes at a warm weather wedding - they can satisfy their sweet tooth, and get refreshed as a bonus.

You can even have snow cones if you’re having more of a casual wedding. The kids at your wedding will be absolutely thrilled.

Desserts with summer fruit

Another great option is to have desserts with fruits that are in season during summer!

Some fruit that is in season during summer are:

  • Strawberries,

  • Mango,

  • Watermelon,

  • Peaches,

  • Berries,

  • Bananas,

and more.

With fruit, you can even just “dress up” the fruit and turn it into little fruit tarts or dessert snacks - so you’re not serving only regular desserts, and you’re not serving plain boring fruit. You can make a mix of both!

Strawberry Sundae Bites

Instructions:

  1. Cut stem off strawberries, slice each lengthwise.

  2. Top with whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate chips.

Watermelon “Cakes”

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Watermelon chunks - 46 calories

  • 4 Tbsp Regular whipped cream - 60 calories

  • 2 tsp Sprinkles - 40 calories

Instructions:

  1. Cut watermelon into circular chunks – or regular cubes or slices if you prefer

  2. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles.

Banana “Snickers”

289 calories

Ingredients:

  • ½ Banana - 52.5 calories

  • 2 Tbsp Chocolate chips - 140 calories

  • ⅛ cup Peanuts - 96 calories

  • 1 Salt, dash - 0 calories

Instructions:

  1. Slice banana in half, lengthwise

  2. Place nuts in a small container (like a baggie) and crush with a hard object (e.g. a hammer, or similar kitchen equipment)

  3. Place chocolate chips in a small container, microwave for ~30 seconds until melted

  4. Top banana slices with chocolate and nuts

  5. Either eat as they are now, or freeze for a few hours

  6. No nuts? Use pumpkin or sunflower seeds

Banana Split Pops

Ingredients:

  • ½ Banana - 52.5 calories

  • 1 Maraschino cherry - 8 calories

  • 2 Tbsp Regular whipped cream - 30 calories

  • 1 tsp Sprinkles - 20 calories

  • 1 Tbsp Chocolate chips - 70 calories

Instructions:

  1. This recipe works best when making 2+ servings at a time

  2. Stick banana with a popsicle stick

  3. Melt chocolate in microwave

  4. Roll banana in chocolate, top with sprinkles

  5. Freeze overnight

  6. Top with whipped cream & cherry

  7. No dairy? You can often find dairy-free whipped creamy at most stores.

Blueberry Chocolate Bites

Ingredients:

  • ⅛ cup Blueberries, fresh - 8.75 calories

  • 4 Tbsp Chocolate chips - 280 calories

  • 1 Salt, dash - 0 calories

Instructions:

  1. Melt chocolate chips in a small bowl in the microwave for ~60 seconds, mix with a spoon and keep heating in 30 second intervals until smooth

  2. Fill muffin tin with chocolate. Either use a silicone muffin tin, or line a small baking sheet with wax paper and make small circle shapes without a muffin tin.

  3. Makes 4 “mini muffin” bites; or 2 regular sized “muffin” bites. The picture is using a mini muffin silicone muffin tin.

  4. Top with fruit and salt.

  5. Let chill in freezer for at least 10 minutes

  6. Note: Pomegranate seeds are also shown in the picture – use 1/2 pomegranate seeds and 1/2 blueberries if you like, but sticking with just blueberries is absolutely fine – and cheaper!

Mini cakes 

Another great idea for sweet treats is to serve mini cakes, in single servings! These usually aren’t traditional wedding cake alternatives, but wedding dessert options for your dessert table. They also make great wedding favors!

There are a variety of flavors you can make for these mini cakes. You can take any mug cake recipe, and just make it in small dishes for all of your guests, and you can also take regular cakes and make them into mini versions or even cake pops!

That way, each guest can take one, and have their own. They can be all sorts of different flavors - chocolate, white chocolate, fruit, nuts, etc. making these the perfect wedding dessert ideas for small or larger crowds.

Here are some mug cakes and mini cakes that you can turn into wedding treats and wedding desserts, by making them in individual mini dishes instead of in mugs.

You can even serve them in mason jars, depending on what the cake is. For example, a strawberry shortcake or a cheesecake can work well in a mason jar. It’s so easy to fill the bottom with the graham cracker crust, add the cheesecake filling, and top it with fruit. Even tiramisu can work well in a mason jar.

If you don’t want to have a naked cake, you can decorate these mini cakes just like you’d decorate a regular, big cake to match your color palette. You’ll love that these work great for eating on the go or taking a bite while on the dance floor.

Chocolate Walnut Mug Cake

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix together until batter’s smooth

  2. Microwave for 60 seconds, then in 30 seconds intervals until no longer watery

  3. I’m using vanilla yogurt here, but use whatever you have

Honey Almond Mug Cake

364 calories

Ingredients:

  • 4 Tbsp Almond flour/Almond meal - 160 calories

  • ½ Egg, large - 36 calories

  • 3 tsp Butter (tsp) - 108 calories

  • ¼ tsp Baking powder - 0 calories

  • 3 tsp Honey - 60 calories

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl, whisk together

  2. Spray a mug with an oil spray – I used a coconut oil spray for a slightly better taste

  3. Add in mixture to the mug

  4. Microwave for 30 second intervals until no longer watery

  5. No nuts? Use whole wheat flour or coconut flour

The Best Banana Bread Mug Cake

367 calories

Ingredients:

  • 1 Banana - 105 calories

  • 1 Egg, large - 72 calories

  • 1 Tbsp Chocolate chips - 70 calories

  • 3 Tbsp Almond flour/Almond meal - 120 calories

  • 1 Cinnamon, dash - 0 calories

Instructions:

  1. Mash banana with a fork in a bowl

  2. Crack in egg and add almond flour, mix

  3. Add in chocolate chips and cinnamon

  4. Spray a mug with an oil spray

  5. Add in mixture to the mug

  6. Microwave for 120 seconds. If still watery, microwave another 30 seconds.

Mini Parfait

Ingredients:

  • 1 Yogurt, plain, Greek, 2%, single-serving container - 110 calories

  • 1 Tbsp Coconut chips - 45 calories

  • 0.3 Tbsp Chocolate chips - 21 calories

  • 2 Tbsp Almonds, slivered (Tbsp) - 78 calories

Instructions:

  1. Top single-serving yogurt with coconut flakes, chocolate chips, and almond slivers.

  2. Stir & enjoy!

  3. Notes: No dairy or nuts? Use a dairy-free version and feel free to swap out these for any nut or seed you prefer! (Roasted & salted are fine!) Want a flavored yogurt? Just choose one with <15 gm added sugar. Non-dairy yogurts are fine here if you prefer.

Fresh fruit

This isn’t technically a desert, but including fresh fruit on your dessert table is definitely a great idea! You can even make small fruit salad cups with some whipped cream. A warm weather wedding can really benefit from fresh fruit, as it’s not only tasty, but refreshing as well. Fresh berries, fresh peaches, apples, bananas - all of that can be so refreshing on a hot summer day.

Fresh fruit is great for cocktail hour, so definitely consider it for your big day.
