How to Destress Before Wedding

Wedding planning can cause some level of stress and anxiety in couples, as lots of tasks that are involved in planning a wedding bring a lot of stress.

Feeling nervous, anxious, and stressed before the wedding day is fairly common, as wedding stress is something most brides and grooms experience before the big day.

Learning to destress before the big day can help you keep your cool, calm your nerves, and enjoy the experience and quality time with your partner for the best day of your life. You don’t want to walk down the aisle with stress and anxiety.

So in this post, I’m sharing practical ways you can relax and reduce stress before the actual wedding day, so you can be stress-free, and not feel anxious.

How to Destress Before Wedding

Acknowledge your feelings

Acknowledging your feelings is the key when it comes to being able to destress. You have to notice when you start feeling anxious or nervous and try to pinpoint the exact reason. That’s the only way you’ll actually be able to work through it.

Once you acknowledge your feelings and find the thing that’s making you stressed or anxious, try talking to someone who can calm you down, whether that’s your partner, a family member, or a friend. You have to realize that things will work out in the end, and that the thing you’re stressing out about is probably not as big as it might seem at that moment.

Have a spa day

Having a spa day is always a good idea when you’re stressed! Whether you want to do it by yourself, with your partner, with a friend, or with a family member, it’s something worth doing when you start feeling stressed.

Getting pampered always helps to calm down your nerves - getting a good and relaxing massage, getting your nails done, going to the sauna, all of it helps you destress. There are lots of spa activities you can do, so just choose the ones that help you feel calm and relaxed, and try not to think about anything while you’re there - it’s your time to relax and not think about wedding planning activities.

Go to the gym

Even if you’re not a huge fan of working out, the gym can really help with stress. By working out, you’re releasing the tension you’re feeling, and you’ll feel better afterward. Sometimes physical activity is the best solution to destressing. You can choose a workout that best suits you, so it’s not something you don’t want to do.

If you really don’t like the gym, you can workout in any other type of way - you can do pilates at home, go for a run, go to a dance class or a spin class, go to a tennis session or another sport you like, or go to a group workout. Whatever you like when it comes to physical activity will be great for destressing and getting rid of your anxiety.

If you think you’ll enjoy it more if there’s someone there with you, invite a loved one to join you, and help you get rid of your pre-wedding anxiety!

Make time for hobbies

Planning a wedding is a lot of work. There’s so much to do, even when you have a wedding planner, and it usually ends up taking all of your free time.

So when that’s all you think about and all you ever do, it’s very easy to start stressing out.

That’s why it’s important to make time for other activities that have nothing to do with your big day - that applies to the bride or groom, as it can be stressful for both.

So, make time for your hobbies - whatever you enjoy doing that will take your mind off wedding planning activities for a few hours, you have to do it.

Whether that’s painting, making DIYs, playing a sport, or something else - make sure you make some time for it.

It will definitely help you destress, as you’ll take your mind off your big day for a while, and you’ll come back to it relaxed.

Focus on your partner

While your big day is a special occasion for you and your partner, and you’re probably planning most of it together, it’s easy to actually neglect each other and each other’s feelings, even though you two are the ones who understand the stress you’re currently feeling the best.

So, focus on your partner, as they’re feeling the same stress as you, and understand your feelings. You can help each other by calming the other person down.

Spend quality time together

Another great way to de-stress and actually enjoy this time with your partner instead of just doing wedding planning activities together is to spend quality time together. Go to regular date nights, and spend time together without doing anything wedding-related. Simply talk, laugh, and do anything else you like doing.

It will help keep the romance alive, but also keep your mind off the stress at least for a while.

Both of you need it.

Get a good night’s sleep

Being sleep deprived is the fastest way to get anxious and stressed - when you don’t get enough sleep, you start feeling cranky, and you start getting stressed over everything.

So, make sure you get a good night’s sleep whenever you feel you're getting more stressed than you were before (but really you should try and get enough sleep always), and especially do that the week before your wedding. That’s when you’ll need it the most.

Try meditating

Meditating can really help when it comes to destressing - it’s an amazon way to get rid of anxiety and calm down.

You can watch some YouTube videos that will guide you through it if you’ve never done it before, or you can try out some meditation apps.
