How To Avoid Getting Sick Before Your Wedding

Planning a wedding is a super exciting thing! It’s fun, emotional, and beautiful. However, the wedding day itself can be unpredictable. A lot can happen, especially during the days leading up to your wedding.

With all the stress and exhaustion, it’s possible to get sick before your wedding, and no one wants that for their big day.

So in this post, I’m sharing practical tips on how you can stay healthy and avoid getting sick before the wedding day.

How To Avoid Getting Sick Before Your Wedding

Stay Hydrated

One of the most important things when it comes to being healthy is staying hydrated. Water is crucial, and when you’re always running around during the planning process, trying to organize everything, you can easily dehydrate. So, getting a refillable water bottle and carrying it with you wherever you go might be a good idea. That way, you can drink water often, even while you’re running errands.

Get Enough Rest

Rest is crucial. Your body needs to get at least 8 hours of sleep per night, otherwise, you risk collapsing, getting sick, or being too tired to function.

I know that planning a wedding can be super time-consuming, and there are so many things to do, both for the bride and groom, and people helping them. However, you have to organize stuff and plan ahead, so you have enough time to rest every day. I don’t just mean getting 8 hours of sleep - I also mean having time to take breaks during the day. If you’re sleeping 8 hours, but then running around for 16 hours straight while you’re awake, you can still get too tired. Your body needs rest to recover and function optimally!

Eat Well-Balanced Meals

Eating a healthy diet is so important, always. But especially before your wedding. Eating a well-balanced diet filled with fruits and veggies will help you have a good immune system, stay healthy, fit, and feeling & looking your best.

So, make sure you’re eating enough foods from every food group, in order to eat a healthy diet that’s balanced - eat veggies, fruits, healthy fats, protein, healthy carbs, etc.

Exercise

Exercising isn’t just important for staying in shape, losing weight, or getting toned. It’s also important for your health. Having physical activity can improve your overall health, and it impacts so many things in your body.

So, try to find some time to exercise. It doesn’t have to be every day, it can be 2-3 per week if that’s what works for you.

If you’re someone that doesn’t like exercise, try to find a way to make it enjoyable. There are so many ways to exercise. You can go to the gym, take classes, ride a bike, hike, run, go to yoga or pilates, go to a dance class, exercise at home, play a spot, and so much more. Find something that you like, and do that.

Plus, being in shape will make it easier to stay on your feet throughout your whole wedding party!

Meditate

Meditating can be a really good thing - both for your mind and your body.

It’s very useful, especially during a stressful time - and even though wedding planning is a beautiful thing, it is oftentimes stressful, especially for the bride. Stress is a big contributor to sickness, so finding ways to minimize stress is essential to avoid getting sick before your wedding.

So, including meditation in your morning routine can help you start off your day in the best way possible.

Take Vitamins

Even though you should be eating fruits and veggies, taking vitamins on the side as well is always recommended. We don’t always get all of the necessary vitamins from the food we consume, so taking vitamins to intake all of the ones you need is always a good idea.

It will help you boost your immune system, which is super important if you want to avoid getting sick before your wedding day. You don’t want the cold and flu to make you have to switch wedding dates. So, go to a local pharmacy, and get some vitamins that you will take (but don’t replace a healthy diet with vitamins - you need both).

Be Organized

Organization is something you really need to master when you’re planning a wedding. Being organized will make the process less stressful, and it will help minimize anxiety.

Being constantly stressed or anxious can really affect your body and your health in a negative way, so you need to find a way to minimize that as much as possible. That’s why focusing on organization is so important.

Get a wedding planner, plan out your days, write to-do lists for each day, try time blocking, organize your schedule for each week, etc. Do whatever helps you stay on top of things.

Wash Your Hands

This is obviously something you should always do - not just before your wedding. But especially pay attention to it before your big day - wash your hands whenever you touch something, especially in public places.

Keep some hand sanitizer with you in your purse and bring some antibacterial wipes with you when you’re on the go. You never know what bacteria you have on your hands, and you can easily get sick if you don’t wash your hands often.

When you’re planning a wedding, you’re constantly running around somewhere - and those are usually public places. So you’re exposed to more bacteria daily, which is why you need to pay more attention to washing your hands. Also, be careful about touching your eyes, ears, mouth, and nose without washing your hands first. Cleanliness is essential to help you avoid getting sick before your wedding!

Watch What You Eat

We already mentioned eating a healthy diet, that’s balanced and filled with fruits and vegetables. However, right now I’m talking about being careful not to eat something bad, especially in the days before your wedding.

Of course, this is always important, for obvious reasons, but eating something bad the day before your wedding and risking upsetting your stomach is especially bad before your big day.

Pay attention to expiration dates. Don’t eat at places where you haven’t eaten before if you’re not 100% confident in their food. Pay attention to cooking times (so you don’t undercook something)

While all of these things are obvious, I still think I have to mention them, because days leading up to your wedding can be super chaotic. You’re getting things done last minute, you’re nervous, and you have so much on your plate. So, you’re not 100% focused like you usually are.

When we’re not focused, we tend to make silly mistakes that we usually wouldn’t. So being aware of that, and making an effort to pay attention to all of these things can help you stay safe and healthy!
